FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Is this trip suitable for me?
This trip is for people who enjoy having fun and making friends, regardless of age. We are confident that if you come with a relaxed spirit, you will have an unforgettable week. It is important to understand that this is an adventure trip, and therefore, there may be unforeseen events. We like our travelers to stay in quality hotels, but traveling in São Tomé and Príncipe is not like staying at the Four Seasons in Paris…
At LEVA-ME, we prioritize the quality of the hotels we stay in. However, certain situations may arise, such as encounters with animals you don’t have at home, weak or non-functional internet, broken air conditioning, or shower water pressure and temperature that might not match what you’re used to at home. The food may not be as good as your mother’s, etc… but isn’t it great when everything is different? If everything were the same, it wouldn’t be worth leaving home.
Unfortunately, we cannot promise good weather all the time. Sometimes it rains, the sea is rough, and it is essential to be aware that there may be changes in the itinerary. But what would a trip be without adventure?! If you invite a friend to join the tour, it is essential to make them aware of this information. We want to avoid having grumpy travelers who have been “dragged” by their friends, as it could spoil the fun and relaxed atmosphere of the group.
What kind of rooms will we stay in?
We will stay in double rooms. If you are traveling alone, you will share the room with another traveler of the same gender (it is possible that in some situations, you may have to stay in a triple room or share a double bed). If you are traveling as a couple or with a friend, you will have your own private room.
What if I want a single room?
Single rooms are not available.
Why is the extension to Príncipe Island expensive?
The country does not have a wide range of hotels. Staying in a good hotel, as we are used to on LEVA-ME trips, has higher costs, especially on Príncipe Island, which is an almost untouched island. Hotel rates are above average, and the fact that it is an expensive destination may be the reason why the island remains so paradisiacal with very little tourism. It is, in fact, an exclusive destination, which is reflected in the cost of quality accommodation. On the other hand, being a destination with difficult access, delivering some products becomes particularly expensive.
When should I buy the flight?
You should only purchase your flights after making the tour payment and confirming with LEVA-ME that your reservation is finalized and after LEVA-ME confirms the trip.
We will provide the recommended flights.
When does LEVA-ME confirm the trip?
We confirm the trip when all conditions for its realization are met, including reaching the minimum number of travelers and finalizing all aspects of the organization (reservations, transfers, activities, etc.). Generally, confirmation happens several months before the trip, but it can extend up to 20 days before the date. As soon as the trip is confirmed, we will send an email so that you can buy the flights and send us the details/times of your flights. In the event that the trip is canceled for reasons beyond LEVA-ME’s control, we will refund the amount paid to LEVA-ME, but we are not responsible for flights purchased by the traveler.
With whom will I share my trip?
First of all, you will be with the LEVA-ME travel leader throughout the trip. Then you will spend a week with other travelers who, like you, enjoy traveling, adventure, and discovery, seeking new emotions and unforgettable moments on this journey. The age range of our travelers is broad, ranging from 20 to 70 years old. I guarantee you that the atmosphere is very fun, and you will end the trip with a new group of friends.
Does the group of travelers travel together?
No, since there are travelers departing from various parts of the world, the group’s meeting point is at the São Tomé airport or the hotel. However, travelers often meet with the leader at the Lisbon airport.
How do we all come together when some of us are on different flights?
We will have the details and flight times of all participants. We will meet upon arrival at the destination.
I don’t have a flight on the day the tour starts; can I go earlier or stay a few more days?
Yes, you can, but you will be on your own until we meet at the hotel.
Do I need to bring any equipment?
No, just bring your clothes, comfortable sneakers, flip-flops, and a swimsuit.
Will I have time to myself?
Of course! We don’t like tours that have every minute scheduled. Our tour will be quite fulfilling, but there will also be plenty of time for you to explore on your own! We will be the first to encourage it!
Why are some meals not included?
Precisely for that reason, because we like to give you some time to be alone and enjoy every second in your own way. Therefore,
some lunches and dinners are not included so that you can explore the typical gastronomy or even try out a restaurant that we have not had the opportunity to try yet. But don’t worry, the guide will suggest restaurants that we know are good.
Can I travel alone?
Of course! You will meet many people your age or older during the trip, and you will share the passion for traveling. The group atmosphere is very relaxed, and the participants end up becoming friends.
What if I need medical attention during the trip?
It is mandatory to have insurance that covers the whole trip, including medical expenses, theft, loss of luggage, and cancellation of the trip. Don’t forget to bring your insurance card and the insurance policy number and phone number in case of an emergency.
Is there a risk of malaria?
There is a risk of malaria in São Tomé and Príncipe. The traveler should take all precautions, including consulting a travel medicine specialist to advise on the necessary prophylaxis.
Is there internet and mobile coverage?
You can use your mobile phone in São Tomé and Príncipe, and there is internet access. However, keep in mind that the quality of the internet can vary depending on the location.
What clothes should I bring?
It is essential to bring light and comfortable clothes, considering that São Tomé and Príncipe have a tropical climate. Bring casual clothes for sightseeing during the day, and comfortable clothes for outdoor activities. Don’t forget to pack a swimsuit and a hat. Also, take into account that it is a religious country, so it is advisable to avoid very revealing clothes. A light raincoat or umbrella may also be useful, as there may be rain during the trip.
How do I get there?
The most convenient way is to take a flight from Lisbon to São Tomé. International flights to São Tomé are not included in the trip price. If you choose the extension to Príncipe Island, you will need to take a domestic flight from São Tomé to Príncipe. Domestic flights are also not included in the trip price.
Can you give me tips on traveling to São Tomé?
Of course! We will send you all the necessary information before the trip.
How do I book a LEVA-ME trip?
The reservation of a LEVA-ME trip is made on the website, and a 30% deposit is required at the time of booking. Final payment is due up to 60 days before the tour.
Is the payment on the website safe?
We use a Portuguese system that only allows residents in Portugal to pay via our website. For international transfers we accept bank transfer or Paypal.
