There are actually 7,107 islands (numbers may vary depending on the source), to be precise, with a land area of approximately 300,000 square kilometers. Of these, "only" two thousand islands are inhabited. Rice is the basis of every Filipino meal, from breakfast to dinner. Adobo, the national dish, can feature chicken, pork, beef, or all of these meats, served with soy sauce, garlic, and vinegar. Silog combines fried rice and egg. La Paz Batchoy is a thick soup with noodles, egg, bone broth, crispy pork rinds, offal, thin slices of liver, and scallions. Lechon is also traditional: a whole pig roasted on a spit over hot coals, resulting in crispy skin.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The best time to visit the Philippines is between November and February. In a country with a hot and humid, typically tropical climate, temperatures are more pleasant during these months. The dry season runs from November to May, thus avoiding the monsoons (which occur especially from July to September).<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
